Rest, Peace, and Comfort

"The home should stand for rest, for peace, for comfort, health and inspiration, for the true spiritual development of each member of the family.  There should be unity with a chance for each individual to express himself; a democracy in the best sense of the term." ~ Shelter and Clothing. (Helen Kinne & Anna Maria Cooley.)

Rest, peace and comfort. Is that what your house stands for? I guess mine does from an intellectual standpoint. However like most women I think I keep busy planning and doing tasks.

Of course there is always much to be done in every home.  But this quote is a reminder to me to carve out some time for rest, some time to pursue peace, some time spent doing tiny things to fluff up my nest to increase its comfort and to spend time luxuriating in that comfort. As I acknowledge that I am a spiritual being in a physical body, time needs to be set aside too  for my spiritual development and making space for that in my home and schedule is important too.

  1. Well I am resting right now, Sherri. Mind you, I can hardly keep my eyes open as we went out for lunch for Fathers Day which coincided with my husband's 70th birthday. The housework will be waiting tomorrow.

  2. Happy birthday to your husband Chel. I am glad you are resting - there will always be housework waiting tomorrow.

  3. Take care of our whole self...

Do not short-change our whole self, for the misguided idea, that we have to keep doing, doing, doing.

If we exhaust any part of our self, how will all the doing, get done, in the long run.

Hope it is clear, what I am trying to say. lol.

    1. Yes that is clear Luna. Self-care or taking care of our whole self and recognising we are worthy of rest, relaxation and restoration. And just plain fun should be part of our lives too.

  4. Happy 70th birthday to Chel's husband.
I am up and moving pretty much all day non-stop and then rest on the couch at night. The quote is a good reminder and our homes are a place of rest physically yes and also mentally. The feeling of walking through the door and letting out a big breath, throwing off your shoes, making a cup of tea and just so happy to be home. Wonderful feeling and I love seeing the kids do the same. They walk in after school, put their bags down, shoes off and say 'yay, I'm home.'

    1. Yes it is a wonderful feeling when our home becomes our haven and place of belonging. And it is good for me to stop and feel appreciation for that sense of peace and comfort - it then brings it from the background to the foreground of my mind.
